Nashville Market Sneak Preview

 This is Study in Blue by Sue Hillis.  You might recognize this, as I stitched the models, last spring  (twice!)  Sue is releasing it at Market.  It is a great piece.  I need to stitch it for myself.

This is actual a picture of the pieces from three charts.  Each chart has 4 designs, each vertical row shows the designs from one chart.  Another Sue Hillis piece I must stitch!

Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue 2008

The ornament issue has been sighted in various mailboxes across the country, but sadly, not mine! I can't wait to get my copy so that I can pick out my favorite ornaments at kit them up and eventually stitch them!

I look forward to this issue every year, and stitch a few ornaments from it around the holidays. I ALWAYS stitch the Sue Hillis ornament first. This year I got a head start! Sue sent me the chart a few months ago, and I made a start stitching on it, but it 's not quite finished yet!.

What is a fob?

This blog entry is for Viki, who asked what a fob was, and anyone else who wants to know!

fob noun
1. a vest pocket to hold a pocket watch
2. an adornment that hangs from a watch chain
3. short chain or ribbon attaching a pocket watch to a man's vest




A scissors fob is something similar. It is attached to your embroidery scissors, and is usually weighted, so that if the scissors should drop, the fob hits the ground first thereby protecting the point of the scissors from damage. The star fob that I made a while ago is filled with batting and some quarters for weight, because of the star shape, the usual rice filling would have been hard too work with.

















Scissors fobs can also be beaded, and in this case are more like 'jewelry' for you scissors. The one pictured was a gift from my friend Lesley, who lives in Australia, thus the koala bear at the end.







Any fob also identifies your scissors. When there is a group of stitchers together, there are bound to be at least two that have the exact same pair of scissors. By having a fob on your scissors, you will instantly know which one belongs to you!

Stitch-opoly - A Review

Since Viki and Trey do Opera reviews, I have decided that I would do periodic reviews of various stitching items and books. Here is my first review:



DMC corp (makers of fine embrodiery fibres since the beginning of time) released a needleworker's version of the popular board game, Monopoly, last week. Since I had a 50% off coupon for JoAnn Fabrics, I felt compelled to purchase one. This past weekend, my three lovely daughters indulged my request to try out the game.

It is just like regular Monopoly, where you move around the board buying property. The properties are all named after various stitches and the cards even have stitch diagrams and instructions on how to execute the particular stitch. The pieces that you use to move around are all stitching items, like a scissors, a skein of floss, a ball of perle cotton, a bobbin, the DMC logo, and one more that I forgot. Instead of houses and hotels, it has needlework studios and needlework shops. Instead of Community Chest and Chance cards, it has Needlework Stash and Go Shopping! Go is "start stitching" and instead of jail there is "pull out thread".

We had a lovely time playing the game, but.....DMC should know that stitcher would rather stitch than play board games!

It was a very cute game, and Viki was declared the winner.
